The Paint Creek Scenic Trail is a scenic byway that begins at Tamarack in Beckley and travels 44 miles to Pratt along the Kanawha River, roughly following the route of the West Virginia Turnpike.
Directions: To begin the tour from Tamarack: Facing the front doors of Tamarack, drive to your left, keeping the parking lot on your left side. When you reach the stop sign at the T-intersection, take a right onto Vankirk Drive. (This is where the first audio story begins to play.) When you reach the next stop sign, take a right onto Dry Hill Road. In a few minutes, you'll reach a Y in the road. Make a slight left onto Sweeneysburg Road (Route 11). Stay on Sweeneysburg Road. Then use the map or the Directions tab in subsequent stories to navigate the rest of the route. You may also begin at Pratt and work your way backwards.
